Mini Hair & Skin Haul from Switzerland

I just arrived back from a short trip to Switzerland to visit my family and friends. Some of you may know that I’m originally from Basel, and since part of my family still live there, I try to visit as often as possible.

I was expecting it to be really cold and perhaps even snowy over there, but it turned out the weather over there is just as crazy as it is in the UK. In a short matter of 4 nights, we’ve had temperatures varying from -3 to 13 ºC!

Basel is quite a lovely city, with plenty of green spaces, beautiful historic buildings and the green-blue coloured Rhein flowing calmly through it. When it comes to shopping, there are quite a few places to go (the fashion store Tally Weijl for example is originally from Basel), but then again it’s nothing in comparison to what London has to offer. However, in some instances I do prefer to shop in Basel because UK products tend to retail at a slightly higher price or are hard to find even here.  Luckily, I managed to find the items I written down on my list and they all made it past the security checks at the airport, so yay to that!

So, without further ado, here’s what I got in Basel:

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum

Caudalie is a French natural skincare brand that focuses on the benefits of vine grapes on skin. The Vinoperfect Serum is one of their best selling items, and after reading all the rave reviews and story behind the product I can certainly see why! This serum offers and intensive treatment against dark spots and discolourations (every acne prone’s person worst nightmare) while at the same time fighting the signs of aging and evening out skintone, adding glow and radiance to it. What supposedly makes this serum to potent is their so called ‘Viniferine‘, which, according to their website, is 62 times more effective than vitamin C. Quite impressive! What makes it even better is that this products does not contain any parabens, phthalates, mineral oils, sodium laureth sulfates or animal ingredients, which can be potentially irritating and even trigger breakouts.

I’m a huge fan of natural skincare and all the rave reviews together with the promise of even, glowing skin made it impossible for me to give this a pass. I can’t wait to try this baby out as soon as I finish my Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum!

Rene Furterer Intense Overnight Nourishing Mask

Although the mask is very rich, its texture is light and silky so it can be absorbed fast and not residues

French stylist Rene Furterer made a name for himself in the 1950  by developing haircare products that featured natural, restorative ingredients such as plants and essential oils rather than artificial ingredients that would just coat the hair to make it look healthier.

I found this brand while browsing a big department store one evening, and I couldn’t help but notice the bright green bottles with keywords like ‘karite‘ and ‘avocado oil‘ and similar all over them. As I mentioned before, I’m very fond of natural beauty products and try to avoid overly ‘artificial’ products.

From all the beautiful range of rich oils, gentle shampoos and intensive treatments, I decided to get two products: the Absolue Keratine Leave-In Cream and the Karite Intense Nourishing Treatment.

As someone who gets extremely lazy about regularly doing intensive hair masks (busy lifestyle, the messiness, the amount of time they need to be left on the hair…you get the drill) this mask offers the ideal solution for us busy ladies! The principle is easy: at night, all you need to do is apply a dollop of this intensive mask on your towel-dried or dry hair before going to sleep, and when you wake up – voila – soft and hydrated mermaid hair! Since this mask is fast-absorbing, there’s no need to wash it out and no risk of staining the pillow. It really doesn’t get much more convenient than that!

According to the product description, what makes the Intense Nourishing Treatment so powerful is the blend of potent ingredients such as shea butter (rich in minerals and acids such as linoleic acid, stearic acid and oleic acids), phospholipids and Furterer’s own ‘cimentrio‘ and ‘elastifiber‘, which help to restructure hair and avoid further breakage. Oh, and the added bonus? It has a divine sweet and fruity smell that is good enough to eat!

Absolue Keratine Leave-In Treatment

The Rene Furterer products come in beautiful bottles that look great on my bathroom shelf!

As I’m going to get my hair chemically straightened soon (will update on that!), I wanted to invest in some intensive repairing treatments to bring my hair back to health from the damaging procedure.

The Rene Furterer Absolue Keratine Leave-In treatment is designed for extremely damaged, brittle hair. It’s supposed to restructure hair by infusing it with plant-derived keratin (a natural component of hair), which makes it easier to keep hair moisturised, as well as other repairing ingredients such as sesame oil, camelina oil and biocymentine. This cream can be used either on towel-dried or dry hair, but I will probably use it after shower on wet hair since I think this will guarantee better absorption as the consistency of the product is quite thick and creamy. Ah, it also has a beautiful sweet, kind of flowery scent like the ones you typically get from salon products!

Once I’ve used them for a while I will update on the efficacy and review them properly. Until then, stay tuned for more!

Have you used any of these products or brands before? Would you recommend them? Make sure to let me know in the comments!

xx,

Ara
