Hello lovelies!
Today I’m going to share the first part of my huge Asian Skincare haul (the part that already arrived in the post lah). Yup, you read it right, the other part is still cruising the Atlantic Ocean…or something like that. But as soon as I get the rest I will post the whole collection, so stay tuned for more!
Alright, let me start by stating the obvious: Sheet masks have been booming in Asia for the last few years, and they’ve gained so much popularity that even some western brand are starting to produce them, although there aren’t that many around yet.
But what exactly are sheet masks? Glad you asked. Hint: it’s not something that Jason wears.
As the name implies, they’re sheets typically made out of cotton, fabric or cellulose, cut into the shape of a face with holes for the eyes, nose and mouth. They’re soaked in essence that normally address a single issue (moisturising, brightening, whitening, anti-aging…the list goes on) and, as you may have guessed, application is to simply put them on your face, sit back and relax for about 20-30 minutes.
What makes these masks so wonderful is that they’re absolutely hassle-free and time-saving. There is no messy application that requires tools like a brush or spatula and you don’t even need to wash them off! Seriously, could it be any simpler?
Ok, fair enough, but you might still be asking yourself “I have my tubes of mud masks and creamy potions, what do I need a sheet mask for?”.
The answer lies in the concept of a sheet masks. Because you’re placing a cloth soaked in essence on your face, the ingredients of the masks are trapped between your skin and the sheet, thus making your skin absorb them more efficiently before they have the chance to evaporate. With a normal mask, part of the ingredients often evaporate into the air before your skin is able to absorb them, making them less effective.
Now that we’re done with the theory, let’s have a look at the goodies I got!
I decided to get 2 collection boxes from Sasa.com, each containing 16 masks, and one 10-piece box with Chocolate Truffle masks that I recently found on a trip to London’s Chinatown. All masks are from the probably most popular brand of sheet masks, My Beauty Diary.

And these are the contents of the Mint Green Box:
Here’s what they contain:
Pink Beige Box:
– 2 Citrus Firming Aroma Mask
– 2 Rose Brightening Aroma Mask
– 2 Vanilla Moisturising Aroma Mask
– 5 Black Pearl Mask
– 5 Natto Mask
Mint Green Box:
– 2 Citrus Firming Aroma Mask
– 2 Rose Brightening Aroma Mask
– 2 Vanilla Moisturising Aroma Mask
– 5 Hyaluronic Acid Moisturising Mask
– 5 Mexico Cactus Mask
I paid approximately £13.90 per box which I think is a really good value for the number of masks you get!
Oh, and did I mention that I also got this super creepy looking silicone mask from Daiso? According to the instructions you’re supposed to wear this over the sheet masks too reduce evaporation even further while creating a gentle “steaming” function. To be honest I just got it so I can walk around while wearing the sheet mask without having to worry it might slide off, but every additional benefit is very welcome! 😉

I’ll be trying out those masks for the next few weeks so I can write a detailed review of which masks worked best and which didn’t live up to the expectations.
Have you heard about sheet masks before or tried one yourself? If so I’d love to hear your opinions and recommendations!
See you soon,
Ara

Sheet masks are such a pleasure to use. I think that some are more effective than others but regardless, you’ll usually be left with ( at least ) moisturised + plumper skin. Which is always nice, right? Can’t wait to read your review on the masks you’ve purchased. 🙂 x

I can imagine! I love the fact that they’re so convenient to use. Can’t wait to try, the weather here is cold and windy again so it’s just the perfect opportunity to give skin a much needed boost 🙂
